In Observance of Menopause Awareness Month: Menopause 360º

The Westchester County Office for Women (OFW) held its September webinar of the Empower Hour series featuring OFW Acting Director Catherine Borgia and guest, Dr. Sharon J. Parish, renowned internist specializing in menopause and women’s sexual health with New York Presbyterian Hospital. They shared a candid and in-depth discussion about the different stages of menopause, the latest guidance regarding medical treatments and lifestyle changes, the impacts on sleep and sexual intimacy and empowerment for women throughout this journey.
Borgia said: “This was about as comprehensive a discussion on menopause as I have ever had. I appreciate Dr. Parish’s wealth of knowledge and matter-of–fact presentation on topics that until recently, women have been hesitant to discuss. But these issues are integral to women’s lives and should be out in the open, not under a cloud of shame or embarrassment. The more we continue to talk, the better quality of life there will be for women in general.”
Parish said: “In my practice, I am able to work with women seeking to develop an optimal personalized approach through the stages of menopause, with a focus on enhancing comfort, symptom control and improved quality of life. However, not all women are as proactive or have the same access to resources, so I am very gratified that the OFW is taking a leadership role in opening up the conversation and providing women with essential information so that they can lead their best lives.”
